Amsterdam's oldest
house of botanicals
In 1743, on Amsterdam's Nieuwmarkt, the young son of an Amsterdam hauler, Jacob Hooy, began selling herbs and spices carried home by Dutch merchant ships. Within two years the stall became the shop on the Kloveniersburgwal that still stands today, wooden drawers labeled in Latin, brass scales, barrels of botanicals, an interior essentially unchanged for nearly three centuries.
Haarlemmer Bruin carries that lineage to the beach: a golden tanning oil in the old Dutch tradition, made exactly as the house has always made it. Golden on the skin, honeyed in the light, quietly luxurious in the way only true heritage manages to be.
